Tesla Cybertruck Recall Issued Due to Steel Panels Falling Off

The latest Tesla Cybertruck recall has people reeling, as it’s an active recall on all the trucks the company has ever made. It turns out, they were manufactured with the wrong glue and the stainless steel panels are at risk of falling off.

Tesla Cybertruck Recall Issued Due to Steel Panels Falling Off

Without question, this is the worst Tesla truck recall the manufacturer has ever faced. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will have to oversee the recall of over 46,000 vehicles, making this the eighth Tesla recall on the Cybertruck – a vehicle that was only released to the general public about a year ago.

What’s the Reason for the Tesla Truck Recall?

There’s an exterior panel that runs from the left- to the right-hand side of the windshield that has been identified as a major safety hazard. You could sort of consider it the front bumper of the vehicle, although it’s much larger than that.

The wrong glue was used in the production process, creating a real danger for other drivers on the road. The panel is also known as a cant rail assembly – and it’s bonded to the truck with a structural adhesive, albeit one that wasn’t sturdy enough.

When Will the Tesla Recall Check Take Place

Although the news is already out there, Tesla will be sending out notification letters on May 19th. Of course, they will replace the panel free of charge but, with 46,096 trucks to address, there may be a slight delay in wait time. All models are impacted, including the 2024 and 2025 models.

You can find videos online of people pulling the panels off with their bare hands. Imagine what could happen when you’re doing 65 mph down the highway.

Other Tesla Recalls

This marks the eighth recall in fifteen months, due to safety issues, since Tesla began delivering the Cybertruck to people in late 2023. One of the other significant recalls was back in November when a fault in the electric inverter was discovered. In some models, it could’ve caused the drive wheels to lose power.

In April 2024, there was another recall, designed to address the acceleration pedals that ran the risk of getting stuck in the interior trim. Other recalls pertained to smaller issues like the display screen and windshield wipers.

The timing of these recalls probably feels like a bit of a hit for the company’s founder, Elon Musk. Recently, he’s come under fire for his association with Donald Trump. The President has asked Musk to oversee a new department – the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), which is responsible for reducing government spending – a very contentious area of debate.

Recall Notices Rolling Out Soon

Let’s keep an eye on things as the Tesla Cybertruck recall notices go out in May. Hopefully, there won’t be any roadside incidents due to the faulty panels and everyone will stay safe on the road.
