Week 3 Fantasy Football: Quarterbacks to Start or to Sit
Week 3 brings some tricky quarterback decisions for fantasy managers, and a few of the calls this week might surprise you. Here's a breakdown of who to trust and who to leave on your bench heading into Sunday.
Start of the Week: Drew Lock
Drew Lock has been thrown into the fire in Seattle, but he's made the most of it. Through two weeks, he ranks top five at the position in passer rating, yards per attempt, completion rate, and EPA per dropback, and he's one of just three quarterbacks so far with at least four touchdown passes and zero interceptions.
In Week 3, he draws a Commanders defense that's allowed the highest passer rating, the most touchdown passes, and the second-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. It adds up to a strong week ahead for Lock.
Other Starts to Consider
Justin Herbert and the Chargers offense haven't looked right through two weeks, but Herbert should have a chance to air it out against a Bills defense that's already given up multiple touchdown passes in each of its first two games. Jared Goff is sitting fifth in fantasy points among quarterbacks and gets to play at home, where he typically performs well, against a beatable Jets defense.
Tyler Shough currently leads the league in both completions and passing yards, and while the Raiders could be tougher than expected, he's still a streamable option in a pinch. Geno Smith has a strong passer rating and completion percentage through two weeks and now faces a Lions defense that's allowed the most fantasy points to the position in the league. Matthew Stafford also deserves a look even on the road against Denver, especially after putting up nearly 27 fantasy points without Puka Nacua on Monday night.
Sit of the Week: Drake Maye
Drake Maye hasn't looked like himself through two weeks. He's tied for the league lead in interceptions, and all four of his picks have come on deep throws, a sharp turnaround from a season ago when he barely threw any interceptions on similar passes. The Jaguars' defense isn't unbeatable, but there's no reason for confidence in Maye's outlook this week. He's benchable in favor of a stronger streaming option.
Other Sits to Consider
Baker Mayfield is unlikely to have a big bounce-back game against a Vikings defense that ranks near the top of the league in pressure rate. Daniel Jones has been a disappointment so far, averaging just over 12 fantasy points per game, and now has to deal with a tough Texans defense, making him close to a must-sit. Jordan Love also remains a risky option, currently sitting near the bottom of the league in completion rate as he takes on Atlanta.
