Jayden Daniels Carted Off With Elbow Injury vs. Cowboys
The Commanders' Week 2 trip to Dallas turned disastrous in an instant. Quarterback Jayden Daniels was carted off the field with a left elbow injury on the final play of the first half against the Cowboys, and it's a scary situation given his history with that same elbow.
How It Happened
With three seconds left in the half and the ball at the Cowboys' 1-yard line, Washington elected to go for the touchdown instead of kicking a field goal. As Daniels dropped back to pass, left guard Chris Paul inadvertently stepped on his foot, causing Daniels to stumble. He tried to brace his fall with his left arm and appeared to hyperextend his elbow in the process. Daniels still managed to get the ball out, but the pass fell incomplete as the half expired with Washington trailing 17-10.
Medical staff attended to Daniels on the field before he was fitted with an air cast on his left arm and carted to the locker room. He was officially ruled out for the remainder of the game shortly after halftime, with veteran Marcus Mariota taking over at quarterback.
Why This One Stings
This isn't the first time Daniels has dealt with this exact injury. He dislocated the same left elbow last season, an injury that caused him to miss four games. When he returned, he re-aggravated it almost immediately and didn't play again the rest of the year. Washington's front office and coaching staff have to be bracing for the possibility of a similar outcome here.
It's a tough break in a lot of ways, since Daniels was having a strong first half before going down. He completed 11 of 17 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown through the air, adding 69 yards on the ground on seven carries. Daniels had a historic rookie season for the Commanders but was limited to just seven games last season because of injuries, most of it tied to this same elbow.
