GM Recalls 400,000 Trucks And SUVs Over Faulty Warning Light
General Motors is recalling nearly a half-million SUVs and pickup trucks because a warning light may fail to display when a loss of brake fluid occurs.
The recall includes up to 449,671 model year 2023–2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESVs, 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2023–2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban 1500, 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, 2023–2024 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, according to a notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In the recalled vehicles, the electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs. In the event of a brake fluid leak, brake performance can be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.
The defect was discovered in April by a GM engineer who reported the issue after noticing the indicator did not light when performing a forced brake fluid leak test. Upon investigation, the issue with the electronic brake control module software was identified.
GM said it has not received any reports of crashes or injuries associated with the issue.
The automaker said the issue with the electronic brake control module software would be remedied by an over-the-air update or by a dealer free of charge. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed Oct. 28.
