Heading into the last day of competition at the Paris Summer Olympics and the Americans are leading in the overall medal count with 122 gold, silver, and bronze medals. It was a particularly big day on Saturday for the Americans with the team scooping up several medals as the competition winds down. Here is a look at some of the highlights of the competition over the last few days.

Women's Gymnastics Concludes with Two More American Medal Winners

It was an extraordinary run for Simone Biles, winning one more model on Monday when she finished with a silver medal on the floor routine.

A bit of a slip on the balance beam knocked the American phenom out of medal contention in this event final. She will leave Paris with four medals, including a gold in the vault, a gold in the all-around individual final, and a gold for the team competition.

Also on Monday, American Jordan Chiles brought home the bronze on the floor. Brazil's Rebeca Andrade finished at the top of the podium in this event, flanked by the two Americans.

Track and Field Highlight Competition of the Last Week

While all of the big headlines were focused on the swimming pool during the first week of the Games, it was the track and field events that took center stage during the back half of the Olympics. Team USA knocked it out of the park, dominating the field in most events.

American Quincy Hall came from behind to slip past Great Britain's Matthew Hudson-Smith in the final of the much-anticipated men's 400-meter run. Hall won the gold medal by just .04 seconds. The Americans had the one-two punch in the 4x400-relay on Saturday with both the men and women taking the gold.

Elsewhere on the track, Morocco's Soufiane El Bakkali needed a last-minute surge at the end of the 3,000-meter steeplechase to fend off American Kenneth Rooks to win first place. Rooks had a solid lead heading into the final seconds of this event.

American sprinter Noah Lyles came up short of winning his second gold medal of these Olympics when he slipped into third place in the men's 200-meter race.

Lyles needed medical attention immediately after the race with his team later announcing that he had competed in the event with COVID-19. Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo stood atop of the podium with the gold following Lyles' disappointing finish.

On Thursday, Team USA's Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone set a new world record in the 400-meter hurdles as she added a gold to her haul.

Team USA also turned in a big performance in the men's 400-meter hurdles, winning the gold in this event. The Americans also inch past Team Great Britain in the women's 4x100 relay to win the gold.

Another world record was set when Mondo Duplantis cleared 6.25 meters in the pole vault. This is not a new feat for the Swedish American, having previously broke the record eight times before these Games.

Team USA Basketball Teams Make it Gold Medal Games

The Team USA men's basketball team won the gold medal on Saturday, beating hometown favorite France by a score of 98 - 87. It was the fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal for the men's hoops team.

Led by Steph Curry with a game-high 24 points, the men were able to put away France in the last quarter of the close match at Bercy Arena in Paris.

The Americans let a 14-point lead fall to just six in the fourth quarter with the French storming back to cut it to three points with just a few minutes left in the contest.

The men's team advanced to the finals after beating Brazil convincingly by 122 - 87 in the quarterfinals before bringing down Serbia on Thursday.

It was a tighter situation against Serbia as Team USA was down by 17 points at one point before pulling out the win in the last minutes of the game.

Team USA finally inched past Brazil in the waning minutes winning by just 4 points. Both Steph Curry and LeBron James contributed clutch buckets in the semifinal game to send the Americans to the gold medal event.
