Salmonella Outbreak Prompts Trader Joe's Basil Recall Across 29 States
Trader Joe's shoppers beware! The popular grocery chain is recalling its Infinite Herbs Organic Basil due to a potential salmonella contamination linked to a multistate outbreak.
The recall, announced on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024, applies to 2.5-ounce packages of Infinite Herbs Organic Basil sold between February 1st and April 6th, 2024.
These packages were distributed to Trader Joe's stores across 29 states and Washington D.C.
Cause and Cases
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that at least 12 individuals across seven states have been infected with salmonella, with at least seven cases linked to the consumption of the recalled basil.
One person has been hospitalized. The FDA is investigating the source of the contamination, with Miami-based supplier Infinite Herbs identified as a potential link.
While the recalled basil was sold nationwide, reported salmonella cases are concentrated in the following states:

Missouri
Georgia
Florida
Rhode Island
New Jersey

Trader Joe's has urged customers who purchased the basil during the specified timeframe to discard it immediately or return it to their local store for a full refund.
