NFL Trade Deadline: Who’s Available and Who Isn’t?

The trade deadline in the NFL is quickly approaching, and while the league isn’t known for the earth-shattering moves that you see in some other leagues, there has already been a lot of movement this season.

The Browns just moved Amari Cooper to Buffalo and the Raiders traded Davante Adams to the Jets, reuniting him with Aaron Rodgers.

With that in mind, we still have more than a week to the NFL trade deadline, which is on November 5, 2024. Here’s a look at some NFL trade predictions, including the NFL players most likely to get traded and those names who have been the subject of some rumors who are likely staying put.

Dionte Johnson: Carolina Panthers (WR)

Let’s be honest, the Carolina Panthers aren’t going anywhere this season. In fact, they may be the best example of a team that’s two years away from being two years away.

There is some demand for wideouts in the league right now, as three big names were moved in the last couple of weeks. Johnson, while not on the level of Cooper, Adams, and DeAndre Hopkins, is good enough to get some attention from teams that need another offensive piece.

Possible Fits: Cowboys, 49ers, Buccaneers

Christian Kirk: Jacksonville Jaguars (WR)

During the 2022 offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Christian Kirk to help anchor their new-look offense. Urban Meyer had been fired, Doug Pederson was the coach, and the Jags were looking to get Trevor Lawrence some weapons.

While the team got better with Meyer, they’re still not where they want to be, which has them in a position to offload a huge contract. Kirk probably won’t be in Jacksonville on November 6, as league sources have confirmed that the Jags are taking calls about him.

Possible Fits: Cowboys, 49ers, Buccaneers

Za’Darius Smith: Cleveland Browns (EDGE)

Speaking of teams who aren’t where they thought they’d be right now, the Browns seem to be right back in their usual cycle of looking to next season.

Even before DeShaun Watson tore his Achilles tendon, the team was 1-6. Smith is 32 and has been in the league for a decade, so while he’s not getting any younger, he likely still has some gas in the tank.

Possible Fits: Falcons, Commanders, Lions

Mike Williams: New York Jets (WR)

If it seems like we’re only discussing wide receivers who could be on the move, it’s because that’s the position that seems to be the most likely to be traded this season.

When the Jets traded for Davante Adams, it stood to reason that someone in the WR room would get forced out. That someone is likely to be Mike Williams, especially after Aaron Rodgers’ comments about the pair’s struggles to connect in the passing game after a week-six loss.

Possible Fits: Cowboys, Buccaneers, Chargers

Josh Uche: New England Patriots (EDGE)

Let’s look at one more name that’s likely to have a new address before getting into some players who will probably be staying put. Josh Uche is only 26, which makes him even more appealing to contenders who are looking to bolster their pass rush.

When you combine that with the fact that New England still isn’t ready to compete, and likely won’t be before his contract is up, he should be able to land the Pats some valuable draft capital.

Possible Fits: Ravens, Chiefs, Lions

Cooper Kupp: Los Angeles Rams (WR)

Cooper Kupp isn’t the only Ram that we’re going to discuss, but his name has been coming up in trade rumors throughout the young season.

The Rams did receive some phone calls about Kupp’s availability, but the fact that he was injured reportedly kept anything from happening. After Thursday night’s win over the 5-1 Minnesota Vikings, Sean McVay made it clear that Kupp is not going anywhere.

Matthew Stafford: Los Angeles Rams (QB)

Speaking of Rams who have been tossed around in possible trade talks, it’s surprising to see a franchise QB’s name on the list. There was probably never anything to the trade rumors surrounding Stafford, but he had been linked to both the Browns and the Vikings earlier in the season.

With the 49ers looking quite beatable this season, the NFC West is still wide open. Now that he’s got Kupp and Puka Nacua back, Stafford isn’t going anywhere.

Jeffery Simmons: Tennessee Titans (DT)

Multiple league sources have reported that the Titans have received calls about Jeffery Simmons. With the team’s early season struggles, it makes sense that there would be teams looking for a fire sale.

However, the same sources that report that teams have been calling Nashville acknowledge that the Titans have made it clear that they’re not going to move on from their stud defensive tackle.

Maxx Crosby: Las Vegas Raiders (DE)

Maxx Crosby is one of the best defensive players in the league, and if there’s any player in the league who is cut out to be a Raider, it’s him.

While his name has been thrown around in multiple TV segments and online reports, it’s not likely that there was ever any real fire under the smoke. Have teams called the Raiders about him? Probably. But the chances of the Raiders moving on from Crosby are close to 0%.

Myles Garrett: Cleveland Browns (DE)

A year ago, the Browns went 11-6 and made the playoffs. This year, they’re 1-6 and seem to be falling apart at the seams. With that, the best names on the roster have been tossed around in trade rumors, including Garrett, who won the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year award.

Garrett was linked to the Falcons and the Packers, but instead of letting a media member handle reporting on it, he made the announcement that he wouldn’t be going anywhere.

At only 28, Garrett is still young enough to be a key contributor for the Browns if they’re ready to compete next year, or even further into the future.
