13 of the Most Memorable Moments From the 2024 Grammy's
The music industry came together to celebrate their own on Sunday, February 3rd at the Grammy's. And it was a night to remember. There were new categories to celebrate, including Best African Music Performance.
There were also exciting musical performances to enjoy. In fact, the award show had some of the best moments in Grammy history. There were also some low points in the show.
Here’s a look at the high points and low points of the 2024 Grammy's.
Tracy Chapman Performance
“Fast Car” is the song that propelled Tracy Chapman into superstar status back in 1988. But it was her performance of “Fast Car" at the 2024 Grammy’s that shot her right into icon status.
Over the years, Tracy Chapman has led a very private life. So, it came as quite a shock when she appeared on stage next to Luke Combs to perform a duet of her song “Fast Car”. This performance was one of the best moments of the night.
Joni Mitchell Performing Both Sides Now
Joni Mitchell is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Joni Mitchell was 21 years old when she recorded “Both Sides Now" back in 1969. That song would become one of her most endearing records.
Joni Mitchell brought the audience to tears when she took to the stage for a live performance of “Both Sides Now”. This was the first time that Joni Mitchell has ever performed at the Grammy's.
SZAs Acceptance Speech
SZA made the Grammy's a night to remember when she took to the stage for her acceptance speech. SZA showed off her fan girl status when she gave a shout-out to Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech for Best R&B Song.
Of course, SZAs speech was also memorable for announcing that she was backstage changing and taking a shot when her name was announced for the Grammy win.
Of Course, Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift was also a high point of the Grammy Awards. Taylor Swift made history by winning her 4th Album of the Year award. But it might be her announcement about her newest album release that fans might remember the most about the evening.
Why’d she forget to give a shout-out to her boyfriend, Travis Kelce? It was a sweet gesture when Taylor brought Lana Del Rey onto the stage with her though.
Fantasia Barrino Tribute to the Great Tina Turner
When Tina Turner died in 2023, she left a painful hole in the music industry. After all, no one can replace Tina Turner’s energy and talent. Fantasia Barrino, star of The Color Purple, did a great job of paying tribute to Tina Turner.
Fantasia’s tribute to Tina Turner was one of the high points of the 2024 Grammy's. She lit up the stage with her performance of Tina Turner’s hit “Proud Mary.”
Annie Lennox Tribute to Sinead O’Connor
Sinead O’Connor was another great performer that the world lost in 2023. And the Grammy's picked the perfect person to pay tribute to her. Annie Lennox is a musical legend in her own right.
When she took to the stage to sing Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U”, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. The performance was even more memorable with Annie Lennox teaming up with the duo Wendy and Lisa.
If you don’t remember, Wendy and Lisa were two powerhouse members of Prince’s band The Revolution. And it was Prince who wrote the power ballad, "Nothing Compares 2 U.”
Billy Joel Makes His Return
It’s been 17 years since Billy Joel wrote his last solo song. So it came as quite a welcome surprise when he took to the stage to perform his newest single, “Turn the Lights Back On” at the 2024 Grammy's.
Billy Joel’s live performance was one of the high points of the night. His performance was reminiscent of classic Grammy productions.
Billie Eilish Performance
Billie Eilish provided another high point of the evening when she performed her hit song “What Was I Made For” at the Grammy's.
Billie Eilish pours her soul into every song she writes. Her performance at the Grammy's was soulful and beautiful.
Miley Cyrus Gets Her Recognition
With six nominations coming into the Grammy's, Miley Cyrus was a fan favorite for an award. Given the fact that she’d never won a Grammy before, it was a high point when her name was called twice at the Grammy's.
Miley Cyrus walked away with Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year for ‘Flowers.”
Jay-Z Goes Above and Beyond
Everyone loves how dedicated Jay-Z is to Beyonce. But when he used his acceptance speech to take a dig at the Album of the Year nominees, it turned into a low point of the evening.
It does seem strange that Beyonce has never won Album of the Year. That shouldn’t take away from the other talented people in the music industry though.
Killer Mike’s Assault and Arrest
Killer Mike getting taken away in handcuffs was one of those moments. Killer Mike was coming off an exciting evening where he won three Grammy awards when he was involved in a backstage altercation.
It ended up with police leading the star away in handcuffs. After all that, Killer Mike wasn’t charged with any crimes.
Lana Del Ray Not Winning an Award
Lana Del Rey received five Grammy nominations this year. Unfortunately, she didn’t walk away with any awards from the 2024 Grammy's.
That turned into one of the low points of the evening. Lana Del Rey fans were hoping that she’d finally get her recognition. After all, she’s never won a Grammy even though she’s received 11 nominations.
Trevor Noah…Again
Trevor Noah has hosted the Grammy's four times, which makes this latest edition one of the low points of the show. Trevor Noah is a great comedian and does a fantastic job of hosting the Grammy's.
But it’s time for someone new. Some options for next year include Lin-Manuel Miranda, Donald Glover, or Nicki Minaj.
