‘Love Island USA’ Pays Tribute to Executive Producer James Barker After His Death

The longtime Love Island USA producer died on June 12th after suffering an unexpected medical emergency in Fiji, where the show's eighth season was in production. He was only 40 years old.

From Story Producer to Executive Producer
James joined Love Island USA in 2020 as a story producer before working his way up to Executive Producer, a position he held during the show's three most recent seasons. His responsibilities touched upon many different areas of production, including story development, post-production, music, and overall creative direction.
And that connection to music wasn't limited to TV. James was also a longtime DJ, known for supporting emerging artists and bringing his love of music into every area of his life.
Before becoming a key figure in the villa, James built a career on a variety of popular series, including Queer Eye, Pawn Stars, Forged in Fire, and Love Island Games. Although those shows couldn't be more different, his colleagues have consistently described James in similar terms: thoughtful, creative, generous, and deeply committed to his work.

Just days after his passing, Love Island USA paid tribute to James during its June 16th episode. The episode concluded with a photo montage and a brief dedication honoring the reality television producer who helped shape the series behind the scenes.
Early in the broadcast, host Ariana Madix encouraged contestants to appreciate the time they have with the people around them.

Adam described James as the love of his life and reflected on the joy, creativity, and warmth he brought to everyday life. The couple had been together for more than four years and had recently purchased a home together in Brooklyn.
