It’s a new year and the start of a new awards season. Traditionally, the Golden Globes kick things off, sometimes referred to as “Hollywood’s Party of the Year.” It celebrates two of our favorite things: movies and television.

As with all things in life, when you bring that many glamour gods into one room, there will be the good, the bad, and the ugly. There wasn’t too much on the side of ugly this year, though. For the most part, we heard moving speeches and saw some nice camaraderie among our favorite Hollywood stars. Let’s relive a few of the glossiest moments, taking a look at the best and worst moments that everyone will be talking about in the coming days.

Golden Globes Winners

At the top of the list of winners was the night’s emcee, Nikki Glaser. It’s no secret that last year’s Golden Globes host, Jo Koy, kind of fumbled the ball. Several of his jokes didn’t land and the reviews were less than stellar.

This year, however, you’ll see plenty of people out there saying Nikki “killed it” with her monologue. There was at least one moment that didn’t go so well for Nikki – her Diddy joke. It’s probably too soon for anything pertaining to that nightmare. But, all in all, Nikki received high praise for a job well done – something everyone was worried about after last year’s show.

Golden Globes Red Carpet

Who here tunes in to these award shows for the fashion? This year, it seems like many of the leading ladies were nodding to the past with their retro styles. Nicole Kidman paired a Catherine Deneuve bouffant with her Balenciaga gown. Ariana Grande seemed to channel Audrey Hepburn in her 1966 Givenchy gown while Selena Gomez paid homage to Jackie Kennedy in her ice blue Prada gown and stylized bob.

To be fair, there’s nothing wrong with keeping it classic. But, a lot of the red carpet critics were hoping these beauty queens would think outside the box a little bit more, à la Met Gala. In truth, it may be the critics that prevent these leading ladies from coloring too far outside the lines. But, the overarching sentiment is that red carpet watchers were wishing for more daring and courageous looks.

Golden Globes Speeches

Speaking of a blast from the past, the one acceptance speech that’s making the rounds on replay is Demi Moore’s. Not only did she look stunning in her own golden gown, she really moved the audience. Even Kerry Washington, who was standing beside her on stage, felt the power of her words.

She won in the “Best Actress” category for her work in “The Substance.” And she got really “real” when she shared that she received the script for it when she was at a low point and figured her career was over. She thought her best days were behind her. Demi said that someone told her to put down the measuring stick – stop wondering if you’re pretty enough, skinny enough, smart enough. And look what happened next. Not only did she put on the performance of a lifetime at age 62, she went ahead and won in her category.

Then, we had another beautiful actress who may not be in the game as long as Demi, but she certainly has an established track record. Unfortunately, the producers didn’t let Zoe Saldaña finish her speech. She was very moved when they announced her as the winner and needed a moment to pull back the tears. And, sure, everything is on a tight schedule. But, it really was a shame when they played the music before she’d finished her speech, basically forcing her off the stage too soon.

Golden Globes Innovations

What did you think of the “fun facts” that popped up on screen when actors were being announced in their categories? Some people are saying it took on the retro vibe of the days when we used to tune in to Pop Up Video on VH1. The reviews here were mixed. Some said it was too distracting while the host was already making the introductions; others found it fascinating.

We’re going to side with those who found it fascinating. It was kind of cute to learn that Zoe Saldaña’s secret weapon on karaoke nights is “Piece of My Heart.” Or how about that fun fact about Demi Moore? She’s such an avid doll collector, she actually has a separate residence to house them!

Where the Golden Globes didn’t score, in terms of innovation, was the camera work. Folks watching at home caught weird angles from the sides of the presenters. To make matters worse, the presenters weren’t always facing the crowd directly. The awkwardness was palpable, especially when Seth Rogen made an off-the-cuff remark about it, saying it was highlighting his bald spot.

A Night of Elegance and Beauty

All in all, the 2025 Golden Globes lived up to its name. We saw Hollywood glamour on blast, enjoyed many of the evening’s gowns and tuxes, and got to see a more authentic side of our favorite actors like Demi Moore and Zoe Saldaña, even though she got cut off.

Awards season is so much fun. We can follow our favorite stars getting ready on Instagram and have fun with them while they’re out there celebrating their big wins. Stick with us all season long. We’ll bring you the tea as the season progresses and see what our favorite stars have to say about it all.
