What McCarthy Believes
“My heart says no one in the family could have done that,” McCarthy said. She was careful to frame the statement as a gut feeling rather than a verdict, acknowledging that the case has never been officially resolved and that no one has ever been charged with the crime.
McCarthy said she spent significant time researching the case before agreeing to take the role. Playing Patsy, she said, required confronting how easily audiences assign guilt based on media framing rather than evidence. She hopes viewers will come away from the series doing the same kind of reckoning.
