Krispy Kreme Is Celebrating Pokémon’s 30th Anniversary With 6 New Doughnuts

Pokémon is turning 30, and that calls for doughnuts. To celebrate Pokémon's 30th anniversary, Krispy Kreme is lining up six new treats inspired by some very familiar faces.

The Pokémon Doughnut Collection features Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Jigglypuff, and a Poké Ball.

The Krispy Kreme Pokémon doughnuts will arrive at participating stores in the U.S. on Tuesday, August 18th, and they'll only be around for a limited time.

Pikachu Brought Lemon to the Party

It seems only right to start with Pokémon's most recognizable face.

The Pikachu doughnut will be an unglazed shell filled with lemon-flavored Kreme, dipped in vanilla icing, and finished with yellow drizzle and nonpareils.

Charmander went in a completely different direction. That doughnut will be filled with chocolate and toasted marshmallow flavors, with orange caramel icing, and red and gold sugar on top.

Squirtle, Jigglypuff, and Bulbasaur Get Their Turn

Squirtle may have one of the most interesting flavors in the bunch. Its glazed doughnut will come with blue cotton candy-flavored buttercream, sanding sugar, and nonpareils. 

Jigglypuff will have strawberry buttercream and strawberry cookie crumbs, while Bulbasaur will be a glazed doughnut with blue vanilla icing and green frosting.

Each one is finished with a piece featuring its corresponding Pokémon character.

Then, there's the Poké Ball. Krispy Kreme kept that one relatively classic with a glazed doughnut dipped in vanilla-flavored icing, covered halfway in red sprinkles, and finished with chocolate icing to create the familiar Poké Ball design.

Throughout the promotion, assembling a box of a dozen doughnuts will be a considerably more important decision.

There Are Collectibles, Too

The doughnuts aren't the only Pokémon goodies coming to Krispy Kreme. The special Pokémon Dozen will come in limited-edition packaging, and the company is also releasing collectible Pokémon cups filled with 10 Glazed Gold Dots.

You'll be able to buy the doughnuts individually at participating Krispy Kreme shops or order the special dozen. 

Select grocery stores will also carry six-packs containing four of the themed varieties along with two Original Glazed doughnuts.

Wear Your Pokémon Gear and Get a Free Doughnut

Here's where digging that old Pikachu T-shirt out of the closet could pay off.

On August 22nd, if you visit a participating Krispy Kreme shop or drive-thru wearing your Pokémon-themed apparel, you can receive one free Krispy Kreme doughnut, an Original Glazed.

A Sweet Way to Celebrate 30 Years

Pokémon first arrived in Japan in 1996, and Pikachu and friends have spent the last three decades appearing in games, trading cards, television shows, movies, and plenty more.

Now, they're getting their own spot in the Krispy Kreme doughnut case.
