Kai Cenat returned to livestreaming Monday after a nine-month break, drawing more than 1 million live viewers across Twitch and YouTube while officially ending his exclusive partnership with Twitch and unveiling the second edition of his creator event, Streamer University.

The 24-year-old streamer went live for his first full broadcast since wrapping his record-setting Mafiathon 3 subathon in October 2025. Rather than easing back into a regular schedule, Cenat used the comeback stream to relaunch one of his largest projects and to broadcast simultaneously on two platforms for the first time in his career.

A Multi-Platform Comeback

Monday's stream aired at the same time on both Twitch and YouTube, a first for Cenat. According to tracking data, the broadcast peaked at 708,563 concurrent viewers on Twitch, while YouTube drew more than 400,000 live viewers, pushing the combined audience past 1 million. Cenat also gained more than 60,000 new Twitch subscribers within the stream's first six hours.

While the numbers were massive, they fell short of Cenat's all-time Twitch record, which he set during Mafiathon 3, when his stream crossed 1 million viewers on Twitch alone. Still, the decision to simulcast on YouTube signaled a broader shift in strategy for a creator who built his career almost entirely within the Twitch ecosystem.

Streamer University 2026 Unveiled

The centerpiece of the comeback broadcast was the official reveal of Streamer University 2026, the second installment of Cenat's creator camp, which brings aspiring online personalities together with established streamers and entertainers for a real-world event. Cenat first teased the program's return during Mafiathon 3, promising a bigger version than the inaugural event.

The original Streamer University, held in 2025 at the University of Akron, became one of the most talked-about creator events of the year and generated millions of hours of watch time. For the 2026 edition, Cenat revealed a lineup of professors and club leaders that includes Agent00, Duke Dennis, Cinna, Maya Higa, TheSushiDragon, Ludwig, Pokimane, YourRAGE, Poudii, Adapt and Lizzo. He also introduced the students selected for the program after weeks of applications and auditions, a process that had already generated online buzz before the official roster was announced.

A Break Rooted in Burnout

Cenat's return follows an extended absence from regular streaming. Earlier this year, he posted a YouTube video titled "I Quit," in which he spoke candidly about creative burnout, self-doubt and the pressure of maintaining an intense streaming schedule. During the break, he shifted his focus to other projects, including his clothing brand, Vivet.

His return this week suggests a recalibrated approach, one built around a broader platform presence and a renewed focus on the creator-development projects that have become central to his brand beyond streaming itself.
