FBI Arrests Massachusetts Man Accused of Cyberstalking Katie Miller
A Massachusetts man has been arrested by the FBI and charged with cyberstalking Katie Miller, the conservative podcaster and former Trump administration official who is married to White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.
John Anthony Proia III, 41, of Waltham, is accused of targeting Miller, her husband and her parents with more than 40 harassing phone calls, text messages and voicemails over about seven weeks this summer.
What Prosecutors Allege
According to the indictment, Proia contacted the family at least 40 times between August 3 and September 23, 2026. Prosecutors say he used internet-based calling apps that generated rotating, spoofed phone numbers to hide his identity.
The calls often came several times a day, sometimes late at night. The voicemails were left by what appeared to be a man who "used a menacing tone and frequently employed disturbing expletives," according to Boston 25 News.
Some of the messages were sent to Miller's parents. "My god, how can you be proud of this filth?" one read, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Another, sent to her father, said, "Hope your daughter marrying a Jewish Nazi/white supremacist is working out for you."
Prosecutors say the conduct caused "significant emotional distress" to Miller and her family. The indictment does not name the victims, but describes a former political adviser and prominent Republican living near Washington, D.C., who is married to a high-level federal official. News outlets confirmed the victims as the Millers.
Arrest and Charges
Proia was arrested on Thursday, October 1, and charged with one count of cyberstalking after a federal grand jury in Boston returned an indictment. He was scheduled to make his first appearance in federal court in Boston that afternoon.
It was not immediately clear whether Proia had an attorney, CBS News reported. Cyberstalking is a federal felony that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
The case was investigated by the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force.
"Those who use technology to harass, intimidate or torment others should understand that attempts to anonymize their criminal conduct will not shield them from prosecution," said U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley.
Ted E. Docks, the special agent in charge of the FBI's Boston office, added, "Terrorizing someone isn't some sick game, it's a crime, which is why the FBI and our partners take it so seriously."
Katie Miller Responds
Miller thanked federal officials on social media after the arrest. She said she was grateful to the Justice Department and FBI agents "for keeping me and my family safe."
"Good to see a Boston grand jury indict this man," she wrote.
She also reposted a message about the case from Attorney General Todd Blanche, writing, "Thank you Todd Blanche, Leah Foley and the Washington Field Office."
Who Is Katie Miller?
Miller is a longtime Republican communications strategist. She served as press secretary to former Vice President Mike Pence during President Trump's first term and later worked as an adviser and spokesperson for the Department of Government Efficiency, the cost-cutting office led by Elon Musk. She now hosts her own podcast.
She married Stephen Miller, one of Trump's most influential policy advisers, in 2020.
This is not the first time the couple has faced harassment. In 2025, Miller reported an activist for posting "Wanted" fliers near the family's home in Arlington, Virginia. The couple later moved to military housing, CBS News reported.
Rising Threats Against Political Figures
The arrest is one of several recent federal cases involving threats against public figures. In September, a Los Angeles podcaster was charged with threatening to kill President Trump and stalking one of his former attorneys.
Concerns about political violence have grown since the September 2025 killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, whose accused killer is awaiting trial in Utah.
