Pickle lovers, our time has come. We can now carry our devotion to dill far beyond our sandwiches, potato chips, and the occasional straight-from-the-jar snack.
e.l.f.’s pickle lip balm is back, and, this time, e.l.f. Cosmetics has given us three briny options to choose from. The limited-edition collection launched online on Aug. 20, following a wildly successful first run earlier this year.
The First Pickle Lip Balm Sold Out in Eight Minutes
If you're wondering who was asking for pickle-flavored lip balm, the answer appears to be everyone. e.l.f. first introduced its pickle-inspired Glow Reviver Melting Lip Balm earlier this year. It sold out in just eight minutes.
Even more interesting, 77% of the people who purchased one were new e.l.f. customers. That gave the company a pretty good reason to pop the lid off another batch.
The balm itself isn't just pickle-scented novelty makeup. The Glow Reviver Melting Lip Balm contains a 10% blend of shea, mango, and cocoa butters, along with a hyaluronic acid blend. It's designed to hydrate your lips while leaving behind a glossy finish and a wash of color.
There Are Three Pickle Flavors This Time
The returning e.l.f. pickle lip balm has two new companions, giving pickle enthusiasts a surprisingly nuanced selection.
The Real Dill: The original features classic dill, herb, and vinegar notes with a sheer green tint.
e.l.f. Von Dill: This sweeter option has a sweet, salty, and tangy pickle flavor with a pearly finish.
Spicy Lil' Dill: This spicy version adds chili pepper, a deep red sheen, and a plumping formula for those who thought pickle lip balm wasn't bold enough.
Each limited-edition balm costs $9 in the U.S.
And, because e.l.f. Cosmetics has decided we're going all the way down this pickle barrel, there's also a $6 Briny Blender Makeup Sponge shaped like a pickle.
Pickle Beauty Is Having a Moment
There’s a method behind this briny madness. According to e.l.f., more than 20% of Gen Z consumers say they're obsessed with pickles, giving the brand a ready-made audience for its unusual beauty crossover.
The collection is available online now and will arrive in Ulta Beauty stores on Aug. 23.
e.l.f. will also bring the pickle party to the Minnesota State Fair from Aug. 27 through Aug. 30, where free lip balms will be available while supplies last.
Considering the first pickle-flavored lip balm lasted all of eight minutes, if you’re determined to get one, you might want to move quickly because these are kind of a big dill.
