Chad Lowe's Daughter Fiona Dies at 13: 'She Was the Light of Our Lives'

Fiona Lowe, the 13-year-old daughter of actor Chad Lowe and producer Kim Painter, has died. She died at the family's home on Tuesday, September 29, and her family described her as "the light of our lives" in a statement shared with People.

Fiona was the middle of the couple's three daughters. She would have turned 14 in November.

The Family's Statement

"We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona," the family said. "She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance."

"She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives," the statement continued. "Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time."

The family did not share a cause of death. Their statement closed by encouraging anyone struggling with their mental health to reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, according to TheWrap.

A Close-Knit Family of Five

Chad Lowe, 58, and Kim Painter, 52, married in August 2010 in Los Angeles after dating for four years. In addition to Fiona, who was born in November 2012, the couple shares daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10.

Lowe often shared family moments on social media. Last November, he marked Fiona's 13th birthday on Instagram, writing, "Celebrating Fiona officially becoming a teen today!!"

The family faced another hardship last year when their Pacific Palisades home was destroyed in the January 2025 Palisades Fire. Only the brick fireplace and the outline of the house were left standing.

In a February 2025 Instagram post, Lowe wrote that "almost a month after we evacuated our girls finally got to go back to see what's left of their home." He praised his daughters for how they handled the loss, calling their resilience remarkable, according to Extra.

Chad Lowe's Career in Hollywood

Chad Lowe is the younger brother of actor Rob Lowe. He won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1993 for his role as Jesse McKenna on the ABC drama "Life Goes On," in which he played a young man living with HIV.

He later played Deputy White House Chief of Staff Reed Pollock on "24" and appeared as Byron Montgomery on "Pretty Little Liars" from 2010 to 2017. Behind the camera, he has directed episodes of "Pretty Little Liars," "Bones," "Brothers & Sisters" and "Law & Order: SVU."

Lowe was previously married to Oscar-winning actress Hilary Swank from 1997 to 2007.

By including a crisis line in their statement, the Lowe family joined a growing number of public figures who have used moments of loss to encourage others to seek help.
