Amazon Prime Members Can Now Get Free Uber Eats Delivery
Amazon Prime members can now get restaurant meals delivered with no delivery fee through Uber Eats, thanks to a new partnership the two companies announced on Thursday, Nov. 5.
Starting now, Prime members in the U.S. pay a $0 delivery fee on restaurant orders of $25 or more placed through Amazon. The orders are delivered by Uber Eats, but shoppers never have to leave Amazon's website or app to place them.
How the New Perk Works
Members can find the service at amazon.com/ubereats or by searching "Uber Eats" in the Amazon Shopping app. There's no need to download a new app, create an Uber account or remember another password. Shoppers sign in with their Amazon login and pay with the payment methods already saved to their Amazon account, according to the Amazon announcement.
Amazon sends email and push notifications with delivery updates, and Uber Eats sends the final confirmation when the food arrives.
The perk is available in nearly 10,000 cities and towns across the country, with access to hundreds of thousands of restaurants on the Uber Eats network. National chains like Wingstop, Chipotle and Sweetgreen are included, along with local small businesses.
Jamil Ghani, Amazon's worldwide vice president of Prime, said the partnership "makes getting dinner delivered even easier." Andrew Macdonald, president and chief operating officer of Uber, said, "We're excited to connect our restaurant community with new Prime fans."
Who Qualifies
All U.S. Prime members are eligible, including those on discounted plans like Prime for Young Adults and Prime Access, which is available to qualifying government assistance recipients. Members who use Amazon Family can share the free delivery benefit with one other adult in their household.
There are some extra perks to start. New users get $20 off each of their first two Uber Eats orders of $25 or more, as long as they use them within 14 days. Prime Visa cardholders can also earn 5% back on Uber Eats orders through Dec. 5.
Amazon estimates the benefit could save members more than $175 a year, based on typical ordering habits, compared with ordering directly from Uber Eats without an Uber One membership. The company notes that savings aren't guaranteed and that offers can change.
What It Doesn't Cover
The deal waives only the delivery fee. Service fees still apply, Amazon told GeekWire, and the perk does not cover grocery orders, according to StockTitan. Amazon pointed grocery shoppers to its own free same-day delivery on perishable Amazon Grocery orders over $25.
People who already pay for Uber One, which costs $9.99 a month, will keep their existing perks. Amazon told GeekWire that the two memberships work separately.
Prime itself costs $14.99 a month or $139 a year, and new members can try it free for 30 days.
Goodbye, Grubhub+
The Uber Eats deal replaces an older Prime perk. Amazon has ended the free Grubhub+ benefit for Prime members, and its Grubhub page now says the benefit "is no longer active on Prime." Members don't need to take any action.
That benefit started as a free one-year trial in 2022 and became an ongoing part of Prime in 2024. It offered lower service fees and other savings, but Grubhub's network covered far fewer places, with service in more than 4,000 U.S. cities as of May 2024.
The minimum order is also higher now. The Grubhub perk applied to orders over $12, while the Uber Eats benefit requires at least $25 before the delivery fee is waived.
The partnership also marks a return to restaurant delivery for Amazon, which shut down its own service years ago, as GeekWire noted. It arrives as competition in the delivery business heats up, just days after DoorDash agreed to buy Instacart.
