A Florida Steakhouse Is Letting Diners Eat Completely Naked
The dress code at C.L.A.S.S. Soiree Steakhouse in Hollywood, Florida is simple. There isn't one.
On the first Monday of every month, the restaurant invites up to 20 diners to eat a five-course steakhouse meal completely in the nude. Guests arrive clothed, change in the restroom, and sit down to filet mignon, Florida lobster tail, truffle mac and cheese, dessert, and a champagne toast — all without a stitch of clothing on.
Chef and owner Maurad Ali came up with the concept the way most restaurant ideas are born — desperation and creativity colliding in a tough market. "As a restaurateur in this rough environment, we have to be remarkable, and remarkable means people are talking," he told Axios.
People are definitely talking.
How It Actually Works
Tickets run $250 for men, $150 for women, and $300 for couples. Each guest receives a robe, a soft towel, and a seat cover upon arrival. Hostess Tashaeba Hart greets guests at the door — already without clothes — which Ali says helps newcomers feel less self-conscious about disrobing.
"Once you walk through the door, I'll most likely be nude, no clothes on, so when you come in you do feel more comfortable," Hart explained.
The events are private dinners, which is exactly what makes them legal. A spokesperson for the city of Hollywood confirmed the nude dining nights don't violate any local ordinances because they're held as private events rather than open-to-the-public restaurant service. Florida's public nudity laws apply to public spaces — a private ticketed dinner party operates under different rules.
The rules for guests are clear and non-negotiable. Nobody under 18. No touching anyone without consent. And absolutely no "touchy-feely stuff" — Ali's words, repeated in every interview he gives about the concept. This is fine dining, he insists, not anything else. The communal table seats 14 and typically draws a mix of single men and women and couples.
"It's more so of a gathering to get to know people, new people in the city and the lifestyle," Hart said.
Is There Actually a Market for This?
Apparently yes. The concept isn't as niche as it might seem. Nude restaurants have operated in London, Paris, Tokyo, and New York at various points — some briefly, some longer-running. A London restaurant called The Bunyadi opened in 2016 and developed a 46,000-person waitlist within weeks. A New York pop-up called Innate ran in 2016 as well, though it closed after a brief run. The appeal seems to center on a combination of body positivity, novelty, and the particular freedom some people feel when social markers like clothing and status are stripped away — literally.
Ali says his concept is different from gimmick dining because the food is genuinely good. "It's a five-star experience dripping with class and elegance," he said. Whether you can maintain five-star elegance while eating lobster tail without pants is perhaps a philosophical question rather than a practical one — but he's found about 20 people per month willing to test the theory.
The restaurant seats 14 at a communal table for the nude dinners, keeping the group intimate. The fire code, presumably, is the main limiting factor and not the seating arrangement.
For a small restaurant trying to survive in a brutally competitive South Florida dining market, it's hard to argue with the results. The nude dinners have generated national media coverage worth far more than any advertising budget could buy. And every seat fills up.
