Taylor Swift Skips the Emmys to Watch Travis Kelce and the Chiefs
Taylor Swift made her way back to Arrowhead Stadium on Monday night, and this time she wasn't alone in the stands. The pop superstar sat alongside Tom Cruise to watch her husband Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs open the 2026 NFL season against the Denver Broncos, the first time she's seen Kelce play since the two got married over the summer.
Arrowhead Over the Emmys
The couple tied the knot in July, and Monday's game gave Swift her first real chance to cheer him on from the stands as his wife. It's also a moment that's easy to see the significance of. Swift chose Arrowhead over the Emmy Awards happening the same night in Los Angeles, though that wasn't much of a surprise given the circumstances. Her special, "The Eras Tour: The Final Show," was nominated for outstanding variety special, but the winner in that category had already been announced earlier this month at the Creative Arts Emmys, with "The Muppet Show" taking the win.
It's been a busy few months for the newlyweds even without a tour on the calendar. Kelce has been keeping himself occupied off the field too, including picking up a small ownership share in his hometown Cleveland Guardians through a stake previously held by David Blitzer.
Chiefs Win 31-10
As for the Chiefs, there was plenty riding on Monday night. Some wondered whether Kelce might retire after last season, when the Chiefs stumbled to a 6-11 finish, their first losing season since 2012. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes also tore ligaments in his left knee last year, adding even more uncertainty heading into the offseason. Instead, Kelce is back for his 14th season, and Mahomes has rehabbed in time to be back on the field for the opener against Denver.
The Broncos, for their part, enter the season having already made a statement against Kansas City last year, ending the Chiefs' nine-year run atop the AFC West. But this game was different. The Chiefs showed up, Mahomes and Walker shining, to dominate te game in a 31-10 win.
