The Starbucks Snoopy Cup Was Selling for $200 on Resale Sites

People lined up before stores opened. Some locations sold out within hours. And a $39.95 glass cup shaped like a cartoon beagle was already flipping for $200 on StockX by Monday afternoon.

Starbucks launched its Peanuts collaboration on September 15 — 10 limited-edition items featuring Snoopy, Woodstock, Charlie Brown, Lucy, and the rest of the gang — and the response was exactly what the company probably hoped for and maybe slightly feared.

The centerpiece of the drop is the Snoopy Glass Cold Cup, a $39.95 glass vessel molded to look like Snoopy himself, wearing a pumpkin-colored hat and green scarf with a Woodstock straw topper. Starbucks put a two-per-customer purchase limit on it specifically because they knew what was coming. The limit didn't stop the frenzy — it just meant scalpers needed more people.

"Starbucks Snoopy" was among the top searches in the US on Google Trends throughout Monday. Long lines formed at locations before opening. Stores in dense urban areas reported selling out of the glass cup entirely within the first few hours.

Why This Keeps Happening

This is the Bearista Cup situation all over again, and Starbucks knows it.

Last year, the chain released a teddy bear-shaped Bearista Cold Cup during the holiday season. It sold out immediately, sparked overnight lines and tense in-store scenes, and quickly showed up on resale platforms with asking prices as high as $50,000 — though most actual sales landed in the $200 to $250 range. Starbucks initially apologized for the chaos the launch created.

Then they leaned into it. The Bearista became a cornerstone of what CEO Brian Niccol has called the "Back to Starbucks" strategy — using limited merchandise drops to drive foot traffic and recapture the emotional connection customers used to have with the brand before it became synonymous with mobile order pickups and 25-minute waits. The strategy worked. The Snoopy cup is the next chapter.

Bloomberg reported Monday that the cup was already selling as high as $200 on StockX — five times its retail price — before some stores had even closed for the day. Pre-sale listings had appeared on resale platforms before the official launch. The scalper ecosystem around Starbucks limited drops is now sophisticated enough that some buyers were placing orders before the product was even physically available.

The collection is available at participating Starbucks locations worldwide while supplies last — which, for the glass cup at least, is already a qualifier that's doing a lot of heavy lifting.

The 60th anniversary of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown lands this October. Starbucks timed everything perfectly — two nostalgia engines firing at once. Your move, Linus.
