Trump Approval Rating is at an All-Time High
Throughout Donald Trump's presidency terms, his approval ratings have fluctuated, with the U.S. divided on their opinions of him.
However, his current approval rating is the highest it's ever been as president, but not everyone agrees, according to an NBC poll.
The poll was conducted from March 7-11 and surveyed 1,000 registered voters nationwide.
What is Trump's Approval Rating?
During his first term in office, Trump's approval rating fluctuated between 34% to 49%. When Trump finished his first presidency term in 2021, he hit a historically low approval rating for a president. Tied with Jimmy Carter in 1980, Trump's approval rating ended at 34%.
At the start of his second time back in office, Trump has reached an all time high approval rating of his presidential career.
As of March 2025, a poll by NBC reported 47% of registered voters approve of his performance - which equals an all time high of his political career. It was also reported that 44% of voters believe the country is heading in the right direction - another record high for Trump. However, 54% of voters believe the opposite, and 51% disapprove of his performance.
With the stock market drops, the soaring price of groceries, and mass layoffs there has been much concern about the U.S. economy. In fact, the poll shows that only 18% of voters rated the economy as "excellent" or "good". It's not as low as a poll from 2022 during the Biden administration, but as low as the mark in 2014.
More than half of the voters disapprove Trump's early performance on the economy while 44% approve. A similar stat is reflected in inflation and cost of living with 55% disapproval rate and 42% approval.
Regarding how Trump has handled immigration and border security, 55% approve and 47% disapprove. On a similar note, 56% believe he's bringing "the right kind of change" on this issue, while 25% think the opposite, and 18% believe he's not bringing any change.
The Trump administration has cracked down on illegal immigrants and border crossings, stating, they have "launched the most sweeping border and immigration crackdown in American history."
Just a few weeks ago, Trump and JD Vance had met with Ukranian president, Volodymyr Zelensky. It's unclear whether this meeting had any influence on his rating of how he handled the war between Russia and Ukraine, however 55% of voters disapprove and 42% approve.
Republicans vs Democrats
In the poll, it was determined a large percentage of Trump's approval rating is stemming from Republicans. Trump supporters and the MAGA movement has grown, giving the president a large influence in a GOP-dominant Washington.
The poll also found the largest partisan divide in his approval rating from each party in the past 80 years. An overwhelming 90% of Republicans approve of Trump's performance, while only 4% of Democrats approve.
Karoline Leavitt, White House press secretary noted the approval rating of the Democratic party has reached its lowest in the NBC polling history, with only 27% of the party citing a favorable opinion towards the president.
Overall, the poll shows the country is still deeply divided in beliefs, just as it was before he officially took office again.
When it comes to independent voters, only 30% approve while 67% disapprove of his performance.
The Vice President hasn't recieved an approval rating as high as Trump, with 41% approving and 47% disapproving.
