Ford Expands Recalls to Address Software Issues in Multiple Models

Just last week Ford was forced to issue even more recalls on the heels of a string of prior recalls. It turns out the company had to issue three rounds of recalls, nearly back-to-back, because certain vehicles didn’t receive important software updates. Now, the number of Ford recalls on vehicles has exceeded 60,000.

What Models of Ford Are Being Recalled?

The first and largest recall applies to the Ford Explorer, specifically the 2020 - 2023 models. After that, it’s the 2020 - 2023 Lincoln Aviator, followed by the 2020 - 2022 Lincoln Corsair.

The trouble these models may be facing is that, when put in reverse, the camera system displays a blue or blank image on the camera, making the 360-degree camera unavailable for use.

Ford Recalls Bronco Sport

The second round pertains to the Ford recalls on trucks. The 2021 - 2024 Bronco Sport and 2022 - 2023 Maverick are also in the line of fire. These vehicles didn’t receive the necessary software updates to recalibrate modules that were designed to detect battery degradations.

This is worrisome because this oversight could prohibit the trucks from restarting after the auto stop/start feature is engaged. Worse, it could even cause the truck to stall when drivers are just trying to come to a stop at a low speed.

Three Minor Recalls

Last week’s announcements brought in a wave of three more recalls. Although they’re less serious, it’s still bad timing for the corporation. One recall only applies to nine Super Duty pickup trucks. It turns out, their front windows can pinch people’s fingers if they’re not being careful.

The second recall is much larger, impacting 2,290 Ford Edge crossovers, specifically the 2021 - 2022 models. It’s actually circling back on an old issue where the backup cameras would display a distorted image when put into reverse.

The final recall in this batch was for 4,721 Ford Escapes that displayed an inverted image when put in reverse. If anyone’s new to using a backup camera, that could certainly cause some confusion in the moment.

24 Recalls In 12 Weeks In 2025

Recalls are quite common in the auto industry. So, this is not a sign that things are going downhill at one of our favorite motor companies. Last month, the Mustang was recalled to fix a software update that could’ve caused the steering wheel to randomly oscillate while turning.

The Lincoln Navigator was also recalled for an issue pertaining to its trailer brake controller. The F-150 Expedition and Maverick were also caught up in that wave of recalls. If you’d like to check the status of your vehicle, you can do so right from the website. They’ll also send you a notice in the mail.

Stay Safe

Stay safe out there! Vehicle maintenance is so important, especially when it pertains to things that are outside of our control. We hope these Ford recalls don’t apply to you but, if they do, be sure to reach out to your local dealership right away.
